About Taste the Island Bakery & Restaurant
Located at 460 Peninsula Blvd, Hempstead, NY 11550, Taste the Island Bakery & Restaurant operates as an other food place serving Hempstead in New York. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Google also lists it under bakery, restaurant, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.
This group holds listings that did not fit cleanly into a food or drink category, mostly businesses that were pulled in alongside a restaurant in the same shopping plaza or that combine several kinds of service, such as a market with an attached clinic or a strip-mall unit that also does phone repair or tax preparation. The details here come from the public listing rather than a curated food write-up, so treat the category label loosely and check the business's own hours and services before visiting. Some of these are legitimate neighbors of the food businesses on this site, such as a nail salon or a laundromat in the same strip mall, while others are simply miscategorized on the source data and worth a quick call to confirm what they actually offer.
Hours are published for 6 days a week. The most common schedule is 10 amβ8 pm. It is closed on Monday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Taste the Island Bakery & Restaurant at (516) 489-5925; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is facebook.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
Customers rate it 4.3 out of 5 on Google across 323 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded other food places in Hempstead.
Hempstead is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Hempstead follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

This was the best griot Iβve had, tender and flavorful. I love the way they make their pickles. The gentleman was kind. Beef Legume! Mmmh! Too good! The pates were also great! Drinks super fresh! 10/10 I will be back!

For those in the culture this is a great spot. For those interested in giving Haitian food a try, this is a great spot to order, but be sure to bring a friend that can walk you through it. Everything we make isn't available everyday. We're used it. You might not be. Cash Only also. The AK-100 is some of the best (akasan is our corn porridge drink), and they make some of the best. The cabrit en sauce (goat meat in sauce) is bang bang excellent and tender!!! The portions will last you 2 days if you're not a savage (inside joke for my countrymen). Everyone who walked in when I was there knew the code for getting something fresh and delicious. We ask in Kreyol (Haitian Creole), "what do you have?" You never ask for a menu or look at the board. Just ask what's available and always grab some fresh bread, patties and akasan!! You will not regret it. My only regret was it was my first time there and they've been there over 20 years. π³ Queens guy but happened to be in that area and my brother stopped there. So happy he did. #GoodEats #theresthatfoodie #LocalGem

First time that I go in myself to get food. My ex used to get food from here all the time . ALWAYS DELICIOUS. & Iβve tried many places in Long Island. This one hands down the best. I went a little late last night . I think I was given an extra patty . Mesi! π₯°β€οΈπ«Άπ½

We had an hour and a half bus ride coming to this tiny restaurant all the way to Hempstead from Flushing. I have tried their food from a Haitian friend and I said I have to buy it myself to see the real restaurant. First is you have to call them ahead because it takes 30 minutes to 1 hour for them to prepare your food. Secondly, there are no chairs and tables inside the restaurant. Food wise, I will rate it with 5 stars. Goat and Turkey meat were so full of flavors, tender and comes with rice and beans, with spicy pickliz and savory gravy. It brings out a very tasty combination even the shallots brings another twist to the enjoyable food experience. It may be far, but I will definitely come back. I hope they will soon deliver in my area. π€

Hands down one of the best Haitian food places in Long Island. Worth the wait and every penny. The patties are fresh and taste so good. The fried plantains are fried perfectly and the pork is seasoned and also fried to perfection. They're on the pricier side but you definitely get what you pay for. It's for sure recommended and will continue seeing me as a customer.
